Summary
Michael Jackson was put in The Guinness Book of World Records. He was put in this book for most successful entertainer of all time; highest-grossing live performer in history; best-selling album of all time; youngest vocalist to top the U.S. album charts; and for many many more reasons. Even though it seemed as if Michael had everything, his world was falling apart bit by bit. He was a gorwn adult that still acted as if still a child. He befriended children just to experience a type of childhood he never felt before. Little did he know, being so close to kids could put him in so much trouble. One friend he had was named Jordan Chandler who was about 13 years old. Jordan Chandler was a big Michael Jackson fan and it was a honor for him to finally meet Michael. Michael spent so much time with Jordan, going to his house, taking him to the Netherland, and inviting him and his family to stay at Michael' s own home. Jordan's father, Evan Chandler, accused Michael of molesting Jordan after catching both of them on the same bed on the lower bunk bed. After lying to his own son about bugging both Michael and Jordan in the room together, Jordan finally confessed and told his father that Michael acctually did touch him. From then on Michael's life was never the same.
Quotation
Michael Jackson stated, "I used not to look at myself. I'd hide my face in the dark, i wouldnt want to look in the mirror and my father teased me I just hated it, and i cried everyday" (Halperin 14).
Reaction
This quote really jumped out at me because Michael Jackson had a really tough childhood. At a young age he was put in the music buisness and he wasnt able to play as a kid, the only thing he was allowed to do was go to the recording studio, perform, and practice all day. His father beat him and told him that he was ugly, this quote really meant something because this was the way he felt because he was told that he was ugly so many times and beat that he didnt want to look in the mirror and he wanted to hide his face. He became insecure and he cried about it everyday.

in looking at the plot, what is the "goal" of the book? Does it follow chronological order?
ReplyDeletewhat connection is there between Jackson's abuse by his dad, and the later episodes with children?
